10/12/13 | RESEARCH | MOVIE OPENINGS – NOW YOU SEE ME

I watched the opening of Now You See Me (directed by Louis Letterier). The genre of the movie was a crime/thriller. The opening scene is very interesting as it took you through the stories of the main characters. They are portrayed in a positive light even though they are seen to be doing questionable things. e.g. stealing money, black-mailing people and faking their own death. There are 4 of these mini stories and they last about 3 minutes each. The title is not displayed until after the 4 scenes introducing the characters are done. There are also no opening credits. This has inspired us as we would like to have quite a few characters in our plot and we want to make a movie opening like this. We could use the idea of having brief scenes to introduce the characters. However, we will add in opening credits. This is because we will not create a whole movie because the brief says the movie has to be under 3 minutes long.
